3 Questions to Ask Before Applying for a Lighting Energy Rebate
When was the last time you looked at your grow room lighting and thought, “It still works, so why replace it?” The truth is, even functioning lights can lose efficiency over time, and that might be the reason your energy bills keep climbing. Outdated lighting can cost you more than you think in energy, efficiency, and missed energy rebate opportunities. Before you write off upgrading with energy rebates, ask yourself these three questions:
1. How Old is your Lighting Equipment?

If your fixtures have been running for more than 5–7 years, chances are they’re not performing like they used to. Even well-maintained systems degrade over time, leading to reduced light output and inconsistent yields. Newer LED technologies are designed for higher efficiency, longer lifespan, and more precise spectrum control. That means better yields and lower maintenance in the long run.
Tip: Many energy rebate programs prioritize facilities replacing older or less efficient lighting (HPS, MH, even older LED models), making your upgrade even more cost-effective.
2. Is your Lighting Technology Energy Efficient?
HPS or fluorescent fixtures might have been the standard years ago, but today’s LED technology outperforms them in almost every way. LEDs not only use significantly less power, they also emit less heat, reducing strain and dependency on HVAC systems while improving your growing environment overall.
If your current setup does not include new LED technology and you’re located in North America, you’re most likely missing out on substantial savings and rebate eligibility. For example, part of our new fixture lineup will offer greenhouse bars, providing the ideal retrofit for 320W, 600W, and 830W HPS replacements, providing the same light output with 30% less power. The payback period can be shorter than you think when upgrading to an Aelius LED fixture with the help of rebates and monthly energy savings.

3. Are your Energy Bills Higher than Expected?

If your monthly energy costs keep climbing, lighting could be one of the main reasons. Many growers underestimate just how much electricity their lights draw, especially during peak hours. Energy rebates are designed to ease that burden, helping cultivators of different scales recover part of their upgrade costs while setting their facility up for long-term savings and success.
Think of energy rebates as an investment in your facility’s future rather than just a discount.
So, Should You Apply for Energy Rebates?
If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, it’s time to explore your options. Energy rebates can cover a large portion of your upgrade costs, with the Aelius Kick-Back Program as an added bonus. We are offering up to 10% of the rebated fixtures back to the cultivators.
